Tourists in Lucan Demesne

This was the scene at the sluice weir in Lucan Demesne back in 1903. The postcard shows well-dressed ladies and a couple of gentlemen posing at the gate, perhaps after taking the spa water. 

Tourists still come to Lucan these days, and while not for the spa water, a good proportion appear to be visiting the place of their ancestors. Since the 1860s, Lucan people have emigrated to the U.S.A, and Canada – some to farm land miles from anywhere, and some even went to the gold rushes! Over the years, Lucan Newsletter has had numerous queries from their descendants, who strive to make it back to their roots. We are glad to see them all, and are delighted that Lucan is looking so attractive these days, making it a very welcoming place. 

Many of us will travel far and wide over these summer months, but it’s always nice to come home. We hope that all have a safe and memorable holiday time!
