Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock 2020
Saturday April 25th is this year's date for the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock.
In recent years the numbers travelling from Dublin have improved greatly, and last year we ran two coaches from St. Mary's alone, over 100 people.
The trip is a whole day outing departing at about 7.45 am and returning sometime after 9.00 pm. We break the downward journey at the Longford Arms Hotel for morning coffee and a scone, and on the return trip we stop here again for a full and very tasty four course dinner. The all-inclusive cost of the trip is 47 euro and bookings can be made through the parish office or at the Sacristy. As places are limited early booking is advisable.
Last year our own Lucan Chorale were invited to lead the music at the Pilgrimage Mass celebrated by Archbishop Diarmuid and made such a great impression that they have been invited again this year.
Knock is our national Marian Shrine and a much-loved place of pilgrimage for people of all ages. In recent years a major refurbishment programme has been carried out and the Basilica has had a major facelift. Within the grounds of the shrine there is a Reconciliation Chapel where confession is available throughout the day, there is also a Chapel of Adoration where the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for quiet prayer time. At the rear of the original church of Knock is the Apparition Chapel where local people witnessed the extraordinary vision on 21st August 1879. There have been many accounts of healings at Knock and many others report experiencing a spiritual uplift and sense of deep peace from their visit.
There is also an excellent and well-stocked bookshop near the basilica selling also a variety of religious goods, as well as a museum exhibition of life in Knock in 1869, well worth a visit.
Why not join us on this year's pilgrimage, it promises to be an enjoyable and uplifting journey in faith together.
